We are the 8th grade class of TCMS working on a Nat Geo Inquiry project through our science class. We observed a problem within our school community that effects everyone at TCMS. We have 30 year old drinking fountains with no bottle filling stations. Some of them don't work properly. One might ask why is that a problem?
- dehydration is a problem when living in the high desert region of southern NM
- the human body needs 64 oz. of water daily
- long lines after lunch clog hallways and cause a safety issue
- kids are tardy or come to class thirsty due to only a 3 minute passing period
- water bottle machines are too expensive would cost a student $540 a year to drink 3 bottles a day
- through research we discovered plastic water bottles have toxins in them
- water bottles create trash
- recycling really isn't energy efficient or cheap and creates pollution
